Behind the Scenes: Harvard University on the Ivy League Digital Network

Harvard University Athletics has one of the most ambitious sports video programs in the country, led by Imry Halevi, Director of Multimedia and Production. Halevi manages a program of internships which provide media students at Harvard and partnering schools with opportunities to work in every aspect of video production in the challenging environment of live sports.  Harvard Athletics shared a couple of behind the scenes videos where students talk about what they gain from their internships.

In the first video, students describe the intense approach of the Harvard Athletics program. The goal of producing to a professional standard has developed strong skill sets for the participants, and led to work going beyond streaming to broadcast via local and national channels.  Both the former and the newly upgraded control room facilities and equipment are seen in this first video.

This second video, several months later, shows students at work in the upgraded studio facilities, and covers how the upgrades allowed for multiple sports events to be broadcast and streamed simultaneously. The program’s improvements have also been able to extend coverage to more sports.  Roles available for students include not only the technical work of operating cameras and production equipment and directing the show, but also the on-air talents roles of calling the game, reporting from the sidelines and commentating.  Students from all these roles are heard from.
